KVM Switches

Most KVM switches which offer USB inputs have problems taking both the Mouse and Keyboard over one USB cable, which is how the NLS Sun keyboard, and most USB LCD/Keyboard combos, are made. These switches can only recognize the mouse if it is in USB Port 1 and the keyboard in USB Port 2. They will not recognize the mouse and keyboard if they are on the same cable going into one port. NLS has been unable to get appropriate information from the KVM switch manufacturers on why this is the case.

The one switch NLS used to recommend was the Lantronix USB ServerSwitch, but this product was EOL'd in January of 2007. We have heard from customers that have tested and passed KVM switches which will work with the combined USB keyboard and mouse. These units consist of:

Aten CS1758
IOGear GCS1758

We will be updating this list as we get more feedback from customers. If you have a KVM which you know is or is not compatible with a single USB cable for both mouse and keyboard, please email us so we can share this information with others.
